The global leader in manufacturing of drives and controls for ships and offshore applications has been established in Wismar since 1999. The company, founded in 1921, employs around 180 staff at this traditional shipbuilding site. They make sure that ferries, tugs, commercial, research, offshore and special vessels are all fitted with the right drive.
The name SCHOTTEL is especially linked with the rudder propeller invented in 1950, which allowed the rudder to be dispensed with. The principle of the ship's propeller controllable by 360 degrees has conquered the world market. The Schottel group has its headquarters in Spay on Rhine and today maintains around 100 sales and service locations around the world.
In Wismar SCHOTTEL manufactures controllable-pitch propellers with a power rating up to 30 MW and a diameter up to 8 m.
